Back in the day the only thing a homeowner had to do to get his or her home decorated was call the family decorator and hire them. Sure for some people this is still an option. For most of us though, home decorating is seen as more of a luxury than a “have to” activity. How many people in your life have homes that they haven’t “bothered” to decorate their homes because they aren’t able to afford fancy decorating items? The good news is that there are plenty of ways you can decorate without going over budget. This article has some tips for quick decorating at affordable prices.
Feng Shui your furniture! Most people don’t know that a simple rearranging of their furniture can be all it takes to give a room a whole new look. Furniture arrangement suggestions and hints can be found everywhere-start at the library and see what you can find! Moving your couch away from the wall is a good start. Save floor space by putting your bed in the corner of the room. Don’t point all your furniture at the tv-create an atmosphere for conversation by pointing your “seating” furnishings at each other. Put the spotlight on something besides the television. Use decorative countertop containers for your kitchen utensils instead of leaving them in drawers. Sometimes all you need to do is move stuff around to create a new decorating scheme.
Even space that is not used can be great when left blank! If you crowd your walls with paintings and prints it won’t be long before your home starts to feel crowded and cluttered-even when it is clean! Don’t overcrowd the pieces you really love.
Limit yourself to a few pieces here and there. When you choose carefully you’ll have more appreciation for the pieces you’ve chosen. Enjoying your decorating is hard to do when you’ve overdone it by filling every spare bit of a wall with decorative items. White space is necessary for the decorating scheme to be complete. All artists will tell you that “white space is good.”
